Long Form Television I love

When it comes to television and choosing what series to watch next I have always found myself gravitating towards cheese sitcoms which I have watched countless times over. However, as I have grown older I have found myself branching out - crazy stuff!! And I have discovered long form show are the way to go when looking of pure escapism. So here are some recommendations, from an avid sitcom lover turned drama enthusiast....

Ted Lasso

Available on: Apple TV+

Rating: 4.5/5

Coming from someone who is not into football whatsoever I enjoyed Ted Lasso so much. The characters were all so poignant in their own individual ways and how they come together as a team is really something so beautiful. The portrayal of mental health particularly for men is also something I believe is deeply underrepresented, but this series portrays it so emotively and I believe will help so many viewers. Being from England, I have always been so fascinated with the idea of Americans integrating their lives into British society and I love how this series merged these two different worlds. Ted will forever be one of my most loved characters from all the media I have seen. There is something truly magical about how Jason Sudekis portrays this character that I find so satisfying and loveable.

Shrinking

Available on: Apple TV+

Rating: 4.25/5

This series needs so much more attention it really is so wonderful. I've never seen a workplace drama set in a therapy environment and this show really set the scene so realistically. The characterisation within this series is incredible, Harrison Ford and Jason Segel portray a truly touching yet hilarious dynamic. The amount of emotional depth in each storyline intertwined with a level of light-heartedness is something to be truly praised.

The Bear

Available on: Disney+

Rating: 3.85/5

This show portrays a chaotic environment in a way I have never seen before. You are immediately engrossed into this immersive experience which truly leaves the audience feeling tense and in awe. The culinary beauty throughout this series made me reflect on the effort and precision it takes to work in an environment like this. Jeremy Allen White performs so deeply that I was left feeling as though Carmy was a real chef.

The OC

Available on: ITVX

Rating: 3.5/5

I really liked the characters in this series I love how they are all so different but despite these differences come together so wonderfully. I mean for a teen show this show is overall fun and light hearted cringe at points of course but when you want to wind down particularly in summer it is definitely one to have a look at.

Pretty Little Liars

Available on: BBC iPlayer

Rating: 3/5

I watched this series at a very young age and at that point it was both one of the best and scariest things 12-year-old me had ever seen. However, watching this now it is not the best or scariest series. Watching this show brings nostalgia and escapism however the plots are not great. The characterisation throughout this show is very basic but intriguing in a strange sense.

Teen Wolf

Available on: Prime Video

Rating: 4.85/5

My love for Teen Wolf is eternal. I know that it's kind of embarrassing to say but it is truly a show I feel deeply attached to. The characters and strangely warmth that this show brings is something I feel will always be in the back of my mind. I come back to this show whenever I need a pick me up and when I do watch it I immediately forget what I was worried about. This series tackles important issues like mental health but is just so fun and gripping.

Gilmore Girls

Available on: Netflix

Rating: 4.5/5

I know this is very basic but this series is just warm and cosy. I don't rewatch this series every autumn like some people however the occasional episode may be on in the background when it's cold outside.... It is overall a very relaxed easy watch that you can't really go wrong with.

Criminal minds

Available on: Disney+

Rating: 4/5

I found this show highly fascinating the characters, themes and plots are all highly gripping and provide a lot of escapism. However, as the seasons progress, I found that the show became repetitive and I began to lose interest. The earlier seasons are weirdly comforting to me. I would not recommend watching this at night, unless you want to become incredibly hyper vigilant.

The Studio

Available on: Apple TV+

Rating: 3.5/5

It won so many awards and I understand why. The chaotic atmosphere and hilarity produced consistently throughout the season was something highly distinctive and original. Honestly, this series made me consider a career in production. The character dynamics and frequent superstar guests were a repeated surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed.
